Drama at Greensteds
Drama continues to play an important role in the development of students at Greensteds. It gives students an opportunity to explore their potential in ways they never have before, and gives them the tools that will enable them to express and communicate their thoughts, ideas and opinions in a safe and creative forum.
Students in Key stage 3 all have a lesson of Drama each week, taught by a Drama specialist and can opt to continue to study it to a higher level in Key stages 4 and 5. Examination Drama is a well respected subject that is not only for young people who want to chase a career in the arts. It can stimulate creative thinking, challenge the perceptions of young people, promotes a positive self image, equips students with good communications skills and helps students to understand the way that human beings interact. These are skills that are applicable to all, regardless of their career path.
Extra-curricular Drama moves from strength to strength and gives all students at Greensteds the opportunity to participate in the Performing arts, in a variety of ways. Very successful past productions have included The Lion King, Bugsy Malone, Godspell, Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth. Preparations will soon begin for the musical that will be performed in February 2014.
Every two years Greensteds students leave Kenya behind and embark on a two week Music and Drama tour of the UK. In July 2013, 35 students armed with a fantastic piece of musical theatre, took to many stages, in various venues in the UK and gave their riveted audiences a true slice of Kenya. Our truly gifted students sang, danced and acted in schools, community centres and even The Kenyan High Commission in London to the best of their ability, making Greensteds very proud of them.
